The new Everett Meredith Middle School replaced an aging middle school in the Appoquinimink School District. The new school houses 1,000 students in grades 6 through 8. The 2-story building includes 3 academic pods, a related arts pod, a cafeteria/kitchen for serving 350 students, a 500-seat auditorium, a 400-seat gymnasium, and assorted support spaces. The design includes:

• A large learning stair in the cafeteria that can be used for instruction, presentation, or student collaboration space.

• A modern auditorium with a catwalk system and motorized rigging.

• A central atrium that connects the first and second floors of the academic wing with the media center and the cafeteria/learning stair.
