This expansion and renovation project enhances Exceptional Care for Children’s ability to deliver programming, education and skilled therapies for the medically-fragile children who have come to find their home at ECC. The project includes renovations to an unutilized aquatics wing into a physical therapy suite, education wing and play therapy suite. An existing pool was filled in, and significant envelope improvements to the exterior walls and roof addressed moisture infiltration issues. Bright and cheerful new interior finishes incorporate the theme of the project as a “Superhero Training Center” through the use of unique flooring patterns and custom wall graphics. The classroom addition, or “Academy for Exceptional Children” evokes the character of a one-room schoolhouse, while providing spaces for educational services on site for the technology-dependent children. A sensory room provides an environment for either stimulation or calm for the most medically dependent children, while a gym, kitchen and play therapy space serves as places for fun and interaction.
