Little Sisters of the Poor Chapel Renovation - ABHA Architects
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Little Sisters of the Poor offer quality care in a home-like setting to 80 residents at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Newark, Delaware. Their existing 3,000 square foot chapel was renovated to provide better accessibility and to update and improve the appearance. The central axis is reinforced by adding a roof monitor, flooding the space with natural light. Existing pews were replaced with new pews and individual chairs which allows for better accessibility and flexibility. The sanctuary was renovated, reducing the platform height, and emphasizing the tabernacle with a stone alcove, updated wall finishes and improved lighting. Computer controlled lighting schemes optimize the many different daily uses, from Vesper prayers, daily Mass to Visitation and Adoration.
